Alfred Kessler gave up a thriving practice as a neurosurgeon in order to make art. After ten years of work in medicine, he realized that he wanted something else, wanted to travel a different path. After ten years of work in medicine, he realized that he wanted something else, wanted to travel a different path. He left the U.S. in the late sixties with his wife Charlotte and their five children and moved to Paris, where he painted and wrote. Charlotte was the Assistant Dean at the American University of Paris. Al recently passed away. His art reflects his belief that most of the action in our lives takes place within ourselves, a belief not unexpected from one who worked for years in neurosurgery. Despite our different appearances, ideologies and thoughts, he believed the human emotions are all the same. They unite us if nothing else does.
